Compared with general casting flanges, forged carbon steel flanges have more outstanding performance, which not only does not easily rust, but also has good streamlined forgings, denser structures and better mechanical properties than casting flanges. In addition, forged carbon steel flanges can withstand higher shear and tensile forces.


In actual production, the forging process flow of forged carbon steel flanges can be summarized as follows: first, select high-quality billet blanks, and then perform heating, forming, and forging after cooling. Forging processes include free forging, die forging, and film forging. During production, different forging methods are selected according to the size of the forging mass and the number of production batches.


In general, the internal structure of the forged carbon steel flange is more uniform and there are no harmful defects such as blowholes and inclusions. If the free forging method is used, the productivity is low and the machining allowance is large. However, the tools used are simple and versatile. Therefore, it is mainly used for forging single-piece and forging batches with relatively simple shapes. In the free-forging process, commonly used equipment includes air hammers, steam-air hammers, and hydraulic presses, which are suitable for the production of small, medium, and large forgings, respectively.


For comparison, die forging has high productivity, simple operation, and easy realization of mechanization and automation. In addition, the forged carbon steel flange die forged pieces obtained by using this process have high dimensional accuracy, small mechanical processing allowance, and more reasonable distribution of the fibrous structure of the forging pieces, which can further improve the service life of the parts. Die forging is called model forging and the heated billet is forged into a forging die fixed on a die forging apparatus.
